Get ready for Winter
The cold weather is right around the corner so let’s do something. The best thing to have around in your pantry in Winter is Bone Broth, both Beef and Chicken. Not only is it delicious but it’s incredibly healthy. Rich in Collagen, protein and fat. It’s perfect for when you are feeling cold or getting sick. It also serves as a base for many different recipes and soups. For Beef broths, I recommend braising the bones first and then cook your broth. This gives a whole new flavor to it. After cooking you can either freeze it or can it (My preference). I’ll try to put together a broth video soon in case you don’t know how. All Bones will be on sale in the month of December. While supplies last.

Fall and wintertime is our time to clean up the land and make repairs. We had an area in between fields that was filled with debris. We cleaned out all the debris and had a few bonfires. We also had a crew come in and build a culvert so now we have a crossing in between. Huge improvement in picture below.

Cattle

The cows love this time of year. We sometimes think animals feel like we do. If we are cold, they must be cold too. You can only compare if you wore a leather jacket and a fur coat at the same time. All the animals are so much perkier this time of year. We are working on reducing the number of cattle we currently have. We have too many for our current needs. What this means to you is that we have more ground beef and roast specials coming up soon. Stay tuned!

Sheep

So I bought 4 sheep over the Summer and they are pretty cool. They have escaped twice. Oh boy! Thank God that we bucket trained them. We just sent the first one to the processor and it should be back here any time. I seriously wish I had a go-pro camera on me sometimes. I had no help on the day I had to bring him in and it was quite hilarious. Sheep are herd animals, so they all want to go everywhere together. Trying to get just one, and a certain one to boot, was challenging, but I accomplished the mission successfully.

Chickens

The Layers are already slowing down on production so I don’t think I’ll have many Eggs for sale this winter. I will start more Layers in early Spring so that next winter, we’ll have more eggs.

I’ve got one last batch of Meat Birds growing and they should be processed in about a week. We didn’t do as many this year due to Freddie’s passing. We will kick it up again in the spring.

Puppies

The puppies are one year old now. I was going to get them fixed this Summer but thought better of it with the heat. Well… The just had their first and last heat. They have an appointment with the vet very soon. Since the heat, they have been roaming the neighborhood instead of watching the animals. I hope that changes after the vet!

Stock up for the Winter

Get ready for the cold by stocking up on essential items. If you have a fireplace, make sure you have plenty of wood and kindling. Make sure you have water backups just in case. And also back up your food. The good thing about frozen meats is, at least in the winter, if you lose power, it’s already cold outside so there’s no need to worry. Fill your freezer with Beef, Chicken and Lamb and be ready no matter what happens. There is nothing like some hearty meats to keep you and your family warm.
